AIR BUBBLES AHHHHH!

hey guys.
does anyone have suggestions on getting rid of air bubbles. i mounted my two prints last night and they looked great. this morning i woke up and i'm guess the humidity messed with the adhesive. there are huge air bubbles over the entire work. i mean i could try to re print but it seems a little difficult so if anyone has an idea on how to get rid of them or make them less visible please let me know.

i appreciate it!

- also are we naming our pieces? do we just put our name or should we have the medium, etc

Art Majors: Important Meeting

This Wed. 5pm. At the Muffin. Includes Pizza.

We'll be talking about the new sophomore review process, senior reviews, our new mission, etc. This is a REALLY GOOD meeting to attend to get a head's up on what's happening. Actually, I think it might be required. Eitherway, you'll be glad to get up to speed on this stuff. All art faculty will be there as well.

I stumbled across this guy last night. I thought it was pretty cool.

Tetris?

So this is the image all pieced together and then I think the windows are 3x3 so I readjusted the image so it can be split up into three to go into the windows so the image is 3x9. Any thoughts?
I was debating about breaking up the backwards L's randomly like someone had mentioned in class but I figured I'd post what I have right now and see if anyone had an opinion either way.
Thanks! =)

Hawks Herald Is Coming

I spoke with a friend who is the head editor at the Hawks Herald (school paper) they're going to send a photographer to our show and hopefully do an article on it. I think for the future exhibitions in Providence we should try and have the Providence Phoenix come or something.

I have my images

Thanks to the lovely Arielle I now have many great images that I am excited about to choose from and spruce up before I print. I think now im going to print 6 22" by (yet to decide- they will be longer) images instead of 3 44" prints. The images are large but I'll throw in a couple so you may see my ideas.

art show title and poster idea

so i have been thinking about show titles and i really like the global ideals that the GHH is supposed to stand for so i wanted to work off of that theme. the title i came up with is "art:globality". globality by definition is "a state or condition of worldwide relevance or impact." i think that fits our show perfectly in that all our work is universally different and works together in that way. also if you are inside the GHH you will notice each heritage room has a circular logo with a cultural pattern in reference to the culture it represents. i loved that idea too so i tried to use the circles in a way that explained variety in art. so with all this in mind i came up with a poster idea. its obviously not final but i just wanted to experiment and see if anyone else had any ideas. let me know what you think.

see you in class and best of look with the works!

URGENT: IntroDM: Printing

I've received some emails (thanks) asking for clarification on paper to get for printing project 1.

1) Project 1 needs to be printed for this Wed or Thurs (depending on your class time)
2) I'll show you how to print next class
3) Using the printer is free and easy (unbelievable--this is very rare)
4) You do need paper
5) The best deals on paper are ordering it online
6) Get 44" wide paper (42" is also ok)
7) Any brand is ok
8) Any finish is ok (I tend to like mattes and lusters--basically anything with minimal sheen so you can actually see the image. Glossy prints reflect light and are sometimes hard to see. That said if you're a glossy kind of person than go for it).
9) Here are my suggestions for papers you can use for this project and the next ones:

Best stuff available (this is what Meg and I use, looks VERY good but expensive)

10) Also note that you can use butcher bulk paper for project 1 (since what's important is your data and data structure more than the art and look). Here's an example:

p p p postannng

i like Murray's video with the tiny city trailing behind in the ocean!!! i'm very drawn to h20 + film. by the by, this everything assignment.. i'm pretty sure i know a lot about myself, i don't know how many new things are going to be revealed. maybe that will prove to be false, BUT i do really like this project; it's fun!
here's a catchy song from gorilla vs bear: Another Likely Story by Au Revoir Simone, remixed by Neon Indian who btw are sicknastay and mess with 70's esque synth, dl it up (right click save link..) Another Likely Story

*proposal update*

the image uploaded weird but here is the real image.

proposal

here is my proposal for the project. i wanted to get the scale and the placement ideas out so. the final project my not end up in the exact layout. the panels will be attached to the railing with wire cording and hang down into the atrium. now i have to finish the project.

Here is my proposal to the group of students that may need it...
I'm thinking about enlarging the detail images to fit in the center five window panels right above the large doors of the glass facade and placing the model below.

blind contour drawings into sculptures

here are a few sketches i have done so far for my project. i plan on having both process sketches and finished sculptures with lighting and shadows. if (and when) this project will fail on me, i will (positively thinking) have found one way to not sculpt drawings!!!!!

umm...new idea....

soo, was looking around the GHH tonight trying to find a space for my exhibit...and decided that i wanted to change my idea (in combination with the fact that the materials were going to cost too much/i need rent money... :/

but anyways, going to use underneath the stairs (below) for a photo installation....will expand upon later with details when i figure them out.

Sculptures in the FOURTH DIMENSION (insert eerie theramin music here)

So when we were talking about our projects with the class on Tuesday, this project occurred to me. I thought it might spark some inspiration with our own installations in regards to TIME and sculptures. What do you think?

amoebas + yellow paper

Here's the first piece of concept art for the types of the amoebas in the game. This is The Fish.

The drawing in the lower left is most likely what it will look like at first, for the sake of simplicity.

The upper left drawing is close to what the player will look like when eating smaller critters.

While the main goal of the game is to simply eat whatever is smaller than you, in order to (hopefully) add some challenge, you must eat certain elemental archtypes before others. So, for example, you need to eat the water amoeba first, which allows you to put out the flame amoeba. Eating enough of the fire amoeba then lets you consume something like an ice creature.

I'll keep uploading them as my buddy and I try to hone in the look we're going for.

And no, they wont all be yellow.

tiny wire people

here's the beginning of my new idea... this is only what I got done while "working" in the writing center today...

The Boston Show that Meg and I are in Opens this Friday

Hey MW Intro DM Class:

Don't worry about bringing a print of your work to Monday's mini crit--bring a digital file and we'll just project em (much easier). Wish that occured to me in class.

regarding the walls

the white walls in the art building... i talked to mike rich and he said he really didnt have anything to do with that and good luck moving them. i dont think moving them will be a problem- but it might be a little difficult physically getting them out of the building

my new idea, ah well.

thanks to tanya and those awesome little people... I am now changing my idea. I'm going to make the same kind of wire people I made for my balloons (the red guys with the big hands) but I'll use way thinner wire and make them tiny and put them in different environments... the list I have right now includes books, water bottles, an old hospital bracelet, a hairbrush, a camera, and using thumbtacks as weapons. I'll probably take as many pictures as I can and then choose 3 or so to show.

thoughts?

Art Show

hello all,
now that we have a place we gotta get everything together. i think the sooner the better. next class we should try to get a poster designer and/or worked on.

also i emailed kathleen mcmahon about possibly getting the kelley fund involved to get us some money for the show.

another thing i thought about catering for the show. the easiest and possibly best way for us to get food would be through bon apetit here on campus. we can try to schedule a meeting with the manager and maybe even see if we can get some things donated. any other ideas would be cool too but again the sooner we get it done the better. i can try to get a meeting with the manager if anyone wants to get involved. with us as of now being the first known event in the building bon apetit might like to be involved and may donate food, we just gotta ask.

let me know what you think.

Found this guy today, I think his work is great. What do you guys think?

Hey everyone, great news, I just received word that our show was approved.

Congrats everyone.

Can anyone tell me a better way to make a city into your playground?

WOW!

Here is a wonderful set of long exposure light images I have found that are just BEAUTIFUL.

inspiration

Arielle, I know you were working with smaller images and I had mentioned something about this to you in class. Here is one artist I find interesting who does tilt-shift photography.

Also, here is a video I found that is inspiring for any one else who may be working with light :)

Mike rich

im trying to track him down about taking those walls out of the art building but hes a sneaky guy- not around today according to a post it on his door (i saw him walk by the commons though so hes lurking somewhere).

so yeah just to let everyone know haha

Waterfall Panorama

Hey everybody,
I'm TJ and I am a whitewater rafting guide in the "vacationland" state of Maine. This summer, I went to an awesome spot for taking pictures of people as they went down the river on two separate occasions. On the first occasion I was out of gas and therefore decided to bike up there and back to my campsite (20miles). I had my tripod strapped onto my camelback so that I could get great pictures of paddlers. On the way back, I stopped at a small waterfall that comes out of Lake Moxie. Since I had my tripod with me, I was able to use it to take a several shots next to one another as I scouted the waterfall. Thanks to my prior knowledge of photoshop, I was able to combine them into a panorama. This is how it turned out; please tell me what you think!
Please keep in mind that the image size and resolution had to be altered for the worse as the file was previously too large.

3rd (?) show site

i talked to my friend who is in real estate in NYC and she has a friend who is looking for space to hold a show as well- we might have an opportunity to collaborate- kind of cool. i think it'd take a hell of a lot of work to pull all of that off, but if we could it'd be awesome.

just something to keep in the back of your minds.

an attempt at a start

I would love to be able to use these balloons and people that I made last semester... I just need to get the right angles...

and as for our first show... my favourite idea is still to take the white walls out of the art building and hang our stuff outside. I wouldn't mind GHH though... it really is just a gorgeous space just asking to be used for something more...

Here are two recent photos i've taken for my project. i want to present these photographs of light in different self standing ways, using ideas such as 3-D, holographs, optical illusion, film, and any other obscure medias i can come up with or are brought to my attention!

I had a productive day shooting for the first project. These images are raw, and are yet to be edited in photoshop.

idea/exhibit #1

so...my concept is a combination of the evolution of one of my old ideas of using an actual device used to make art (pencil, pen, you get the point, etc.) as art itself, rather than what it would create. the second part is the idea of color...our last studio was monochromatic (black&white), so it will be an interesting shift. at first i was going to do acrylic boxes lined with different gradients of color along the wall...turns out there's already an exhibit ("500 Colored Pencils"...go figure) that did this so now i'm still thinking.

oh, and for the exhibit...hmm, i guess on campus makes the most sense given its sort of a trial run of eveyone's ability to collaborate with one another, and i like the global heritage hall best because eveyone's designs will be able to be seen from all sides (next to, from above, from outside).

Awesome way to build(if it were real)

A friend of mine sent this to me, it's a pretty amazing CG composite video segment showing what could be an amazing way to create projects instead of sitting in front of the computer for weeks on end.
